# Lift Monitoring & Call Points

Netavo provides cellular replacement for the phone lines behind lift alarms and emergency call points, and mobile data and private connectivity for lift monitoring estates, for lift and facilities providers in the UK. We design the network connection around the equipment and receiving systems selected by the provider.

## What the sector requires

Lift monitoring equipment needs a connection from the building to the provider's central systems. A dispersed estate may include sites without suitable fixed access, while the mobile networks available at one installation may differ from those at another. Connectivity therefore needs to be considered at the equipment's location.

Lift alarms and emergency call points have a different purpose from monitoring data. They have long depended on a copper phone line that is now being withdrawn, and need a replacement that does not depend on a single mobile network. The provider needs to establish the equipment's communications requirements, the receiving arrangements and how the complete call path will be tested.

- **Site conditions**: Access appropriate to each installation
- **Monitoring data**: A route to the provider's central systems
- **Call points**: Equipment and receiving requirements defined before migration
- **Estate management**: SIM activation and usage visible in one portal

## How we support it

Connectivity capabilities are selected around the lift provider's equipment and application design.

| Requirement | How we meet it |
| --- | --- |
| Replacing the lift alarm line | A cellular replacement for the copper line, carried over multi-network mobile coverage |
| Emergency call points | A cellular voice line in place of the copper line |
| Data connectivity for lift monitoring | Multi-network mobile SIMs able to use all four UK mobile networks |
| Keeping monitoring devices private | Private addressing and a private SIM network without public internet exposure |
| Reaching the provider's systems | An encrypted connection from the private SIM network to the provider's own network |
| Cloud-hosted monitoring applications | Private cloud interconnect for mobile data traffic |
| Managing sites as they enter service | SIMs supplied inactive and activated as installations go live |
| Managing data consumption | Per-SIM usage reporting with individual or pooled data allowances |
| Voice service requirements | UK numbering and voice trunking where these fit the provider's chosen call point system |
| Retiring or changing installations | SIM suspension and management through the portal or API |

## Planning monitoring and voice separately

**Connectivity to monitoring systems**

Netavo carries the data used by the lift provider's monitoring equipment and application. A private SIM network can connect to the provider's own network or cloud environment without giving each device a public address. The monitoring platform and the interpretation of lift data remain part of the provider's service.

**Replacing lift alarm and call point lines**

As copper lines are withdrawn, Netavo provides a cellular replacement for the line behind a lift alarm or call point, carried over multi-network mobile coverage. A migration starts with the equipment and the system that receives its calls: the requirements of each are confirmed with the provider responsible before a replacement is agreed, and the complete call path is tested before the copper line is ceased.

**Coverage at the installation**

Multi-network access gives a SIM a choice of mobile networks. The installation still needs a usable connection at its actual location. Coverage and the route to the receiving systems are part of the design discussion before an estate-wide approach is agreed.

## Planning an estate rollout

### 01 Define each connection

Identify the sites, monitoring devices and call points involved. Establish the data destinations and any separate voice requirements with the equipment provider.

### 02 Agree the network design

Select mobile coverage, addressing and the route to central systems. Set data allowances around the way the monitoring equipment communicates.

### 03 Bring sites into service

Activate SIMs as installations go live and review usage in the portal. The provider's commissioning plan should include testing the equipment and its complete communications path.

## A typical engagement

A typical engagement begins with a lift provider reviewing connectivity across an existing estate. We agree how monitoring devices will reach the provider's systems, select private mobile networking where appropriate and supply SIMs for activation as sites enter service. Where call points are also being reviewed, their equipment and voice requirements are assessed separately before a migration is planned. The provider installs and commissions its equipment, while Netavo supplies the agreed connectivity.
