## What the sector requires

Solar and wind installations can be remote, unattended and distant from fixed access networks. Mobile availability needs to be considered at each installation, alongside the equipment sending readings and the platform receiving them. A connection designed for an office may not meet the requirements of an outlying generation site.

Operators need to receive operating data without relying on routine site visits to manage the connection. A growing portfolio may include different monitoring devices and reporting volumes, with new sites commissioned at different times. Private access, suitable allowances and control of individual SIMs help keep connectivity aligned with those changes.

## Planning the connection at each installation

### Mobile access for remote assets

Multi-network SIMs provide a choice of mobile networks where a fixed line is unavailable or unsuitable. Coverage is considered around the installation location and the equipment's requirements. The monitoring equipment and the software that interprets generation data are supplied as part of your installation; Netavo provides the connectivity they use.

### Private access to monitoring systems

Device traffic can be delivered into your own network or a supported cloud environment. On a private SIM network, equipment does not require a public address or an individual encrypted tunnel. Fixed access at larger sites and control rooms can join the same private network, with mobile failover where a second path is required.

### Allowances as the portfolio grows

Data can be allocated per SIM or pooled across installations. Usage reporting helps operators review what each connection consumes, while activation and suspension controls allow connectivity to follow commissioning and retirement of equipment.

## A typical engagement

A typical engagement begins with an installer or operator's portfolio of solar or wind sites and the platform that monitors them. We agree coverage, data allowances and the private route to that platform around what each site reports. Fixed connectivity and a mobile backup path can be included where the site requirement calls for them.

SIMs are supplied inactive for fitting during installation or maintenance, then activated as equipment goes live. The operator or partner manages SIMs and reviews usage through the portal or API, adjusting allowances and adding connections as further sites are commissioned.
