## How Much Broadband Does Your Business Need?

Capacity follows concurrent activity. People and device counts describe your site; they do not add an assumed rate. Include background traffic in the other traffic fields. The calculator adds the selected rates in each direction, applies your capacity allowance and rounds each result up to a whole Mbps.

[Microsoft Teams' recommended bandwidth](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/prepare-network#bandwidth-requirements) supplies the video meeting allowance: 4 Mbps download and 2.5 Mbps upload per device. Audio-only calls use 0.058 Mbps each way as a Teams VoIP example. Other phone systems and meeting layouts differ; this is not a universal codec allowance.

[Netflix's recommended speeds](https://help.netflix.com/en/node/306) supply 5 Mbps download for Full HD and 15 Mbps for 4K per stream. These are streaming examples, not requirements for every video service. Streaming return traffic is not assigned a separate rate; allow for it in your additional capacity.

## Upload Matters

Video meetings, cloud backups, file uploads and CCTV share your upload capacity. Enter camera rates from their configuration, including how many streams leave the site. Local recording alone does not imply an internet upload.
