Agriculture & Horticulture

Netavo provides connectivity for farms, growers and the agricultural technology providers that serve them in the UK. We connect premises and equipment spread across land where a fixed line is limited or absent, using multi-network mobile data alongside fixed access where it is available.

What the sector requires

A farm or growing site is a business premises and a large area of working land at once. The office needs dependable internet access and telephony, often at an address poorly served by fixed networks. Beyond it, equipment in fields, glasshouses, stores and livestock buildings increasingly reports to software hosted elsewhere, from locations no fixed line will ever reach.

Mobile coverage in rural areas varies from one network to the next and from one field to the next. Businesses need a connection that is not tied to a single operator, data costs they can predict across many low-volume devices, and a way to manage connections as equipment is added, moved between sites and taken out of use.

  • Rural reachMore than one mobile network
  • The farm officeInternet access suited to the address
  • Dispersed equipmentA connection wherever the equipment is
  • Predictable costData pooled across many devices
  • Simple managementConnections controlled in one place

How we support it

Connectivity for farming and growing businesses, and services delivered for agricultural technology providers.

Requirement How we meet it
Connectivity for equipment in the field Multi-network SIMs and eSIMs, including industrial formats
Sites where coverage differs by network Access to all four UK mobile networks on one SIM
Internet access for the farm office Fibre access where it is available at the address
Premises without suitable fixed access Mobile data as the primary connection
A backup for a fixed line Mobile failover alongside fixed access
Many low-volume devices Data allowances per SIM or pooled across the estate
Keeping equipment private Private addressing, delivered into your own private network
Reaching a cloud-hosted platform Private cloud interconnect into AWS or Azure
Telephony for the business Hosted telephony and single lines, with existing numbers ported
Managing connections through the seasons Activation, suspension and usage reporting through the portal or API

Connecting land as well as buildings

Coverage that does not depend on one network

In rural areas the strongest mobile network changes with the terrain. A multi-network SIM can use whichever is available at the place the equipment stands, and select another if the first is lost. Coverage is still part of the design discussion: multi-network access widens the choice of networks, but it is not a promise of a signal in every field.

Equipment that is only used for part of the year

SIMs are supplied inactive and activated when equipment goes into service, and can be suspended when it is not in use. Allowances can be pooled, so devices that report a little are not each paying for capacity they do not need.

What Netavo provides, and what it does not

Netavo provides the connectivity. Sensors, controllers, machinery telematics and the software that interprets their data are supplied by the business and its technology providers. For a technology provider, the same service can be delivered under its own brand as part of the product it sells.

A typical engagement

A typical engagement begins with an agricultural technology provider's device and the platform it reports to, or with a farming business reviewing connectivity across its premises. We agree coverage and data allowances around how the equipment reports, establish the route to the platform that receives the data, and supply SIMs for fitting.

Each SIM is activated as its equipment enters service. The business or its technology provider manages connections and reviews usage through the portal, or integrates those controls through our API. Fixed access and telephony for the premises are delivered alongside where they are required.
