Education connectivity questions

The questions schools, trusts and their IT partners ask about Edu24, each answered briefly.

Edu24

What is Edu24?

Edu24 is Netavo's education brand, the network built for education. It provides internet access, private networks, and online filtering and monitoring to UK schools, colleges and multi-academy trusts, and runs on Netavo's own network.

Who does Edu24 serve?

Edu24 serves primary, secondary and special schools, colleges and multi-academy trusts in the UK, in both the state and independent sectors.

What services does Edu24 provide?

Edu24 provides fibre broadband, private multi-site wide area networks and point-to-point connectivity, with web content filtering, safeguarding monitoring, mobile failover and cloud telephony alongside.

Service

What availability does Edu24 commit to?

Edu24 offers a 99.99% availability SLA.

Will maintenance interrupt lessons?

No. Edu24 carries out service-affecting maintenance only outside school hours, and major works during the main school holiday periods.

Are Edu24 engineers DBS checked?

Yes. All Edu24 field engineers are DBS checked.

Is Edu24 compliant with KCSIE?

Yes. Edu24's connectivity and online safeguarding solutions are compliant with the latest statutory DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance and Government digital and technology standards.

Connectivity

What connection does a school need?

It depends on how the school uses online resources. Edu24 establishes what is available at the school's address and agrees fibre broadband or dedicated Ethernet around the applications in use and the demand they place on the connection.

Can a school have a backup connection?

Yes. Mobile failover sits alongside the school's fixed access and carries traffic if the fixed line is unavailable.

Can a school keep its telephone numbers?

Yes. Where hosted telephony is included, existing school numbers are ported on an agreed date, with call handling defined before the move.

Does Edu24 replace the school's IT provider?

No. Connectivity is delivered to the school's own equipment and supported directly or on behalf of the school's IT partner. The local network inside the school remains with whoever looks after it.

Trusts

Can Edu24 connect all the schools in a trust?

Yes. Edu24 joins a trust's schools into one private network, combining the access types available at each address, so shared systems are reached privately.

What happens when a new school joins the trust?

The school is surveyed, then added to the existing network design. Installation and migration are scheduled to suit the school calendar and the end of its existing contract.

Safeguarding

Does Edu24 provide web filtering?

Yes. Edu24 offers real-time web content filtering alongside a school's connectivity, available as on-premise, cloud or hybrid deployments.

Does Edu24 provide safeguarding monitoring?

Yes. Edu24 offers monitoring that alerts designated school staff in real time when a pupil may be at risk, with a trained moderation team assessing the more serious alerts.

What is the difference between filtering and monitoring?

Filtering controls what can be reached online, preventing access to harmful content. Monitoring watches for signs that a pupil is at risk and alerts the staff responsible for safeguarding. A school needs both.
