ISPs & Network Operators

Netavo provides IP transit, backhaul, broadband handover and subscriber gateway software for UK ISPs, altnets and network operators. Services are designed with your engineers around your own network, with support from the team that operates our core.

What the sector requires

Growth in an access network creates several distinct requirements. Subscriber traffic must reach the operator's core, internet capacity must match demand, and broadband sessions need a clear point of handover. Each decision affects routing, addressing and how faults are investigated.

Operators also need to retain control of subscriber authentication and policy as they add access networks. Where public addresses are shared, records must connect address and port allocations to the relevant subscriber. A migration needs to account for these operational details as well as capacity.

How we support it

Services can be selected around the parts of the network you already operate.

Requirement How we meet it
Internet capacity Resilient IP transit over IPv4 and IPv6 for networks with their own address space
Connecting access to core Backhaul from exchanges and access networks to your core locations
Linking network locations Backhaul between your own sites and datacentres
Broadband under your own brand L2TP handover from national and regional UK access networks for authentication and addressing on your network
Terminating subscribers Netavo BNG software for standard x86 servers with integrated subscriber management and provider-edge routing
Sharing public IPv4 addresses CGNAT included with Netavo BNG and port-block logs recording subscriber allocations
Planning an interconnect Handover in London and Manchester with capacity and routing agreed between engineering teams
Operating the upstream service Continuous monitoring and proactive fault management with direct engineering support

Your own BNG and CGNAT platform

Operators who terminate their own subscribers can run the platform we run ourselves. Netavo BNG combines subscriber termination, carrier-grade address translation and provider-edge routing on standard servers. It is licensed by subscriber count, with no bandwidth tiers or per-feature licences.

The platform carries production traffic on Netavo's network on the same releases supplied to customers. A free evaluation supports up to 50 subscribers on your own hardware, and our engineers can work with yours on sizing and migration from an existing platform.

Planning the service boundary

Broadband handover and subscriber termination

Broadband handover brings access sessions onto your network so you can authenticate and address subscribers. Netavo BNG is a separate software capability for operators choosing the platform that terminates those sessions. The two can be considered together or alongside infrastructure already in place.

Interconnection locations

ISP service handover is available at Telehouse North and Telehouse East in London and Pulsant Manchester. The appropriate location, capacity and routing depend on how your network reaches those facilities. Our network page describes the infrastructure behind the service.

A typical engagement

A typical engagement begins with the provider's access footprint, core locations and expected traffic. The engineering teams agree capacity, handover and routing, then provision and test the interconnects before moving existing traffic in a planned window. Where subscriber termination is also changing, platform evaluation and migration planning form part of the discussion. The provider retains its subscriber relationships and control of authentication and addressing.
