Standards and grades
Alarm signalling is specified by standard and by category. This page sets out the standards the Signal Dynamic Supervisor is designed to, what each of them covers, and where independent certification stands.
Where certification stands
The Signal Dynamic Supervisor is designed and tested to the standards below, and Netavo declares it compliant with them. Independent third-party certification is in progress.
Until that certification is complete we describe the Supervisor as designed to a standard or category, not as certified to it. If a specification you are working to requires a certificate, tell us and we will give you the current position.

The standards
| Standard | What it covers | Why it matters here |
|---|---|---|
| EN 50136-1 | Alarm transmission systems: general requirements, including performance and the monitoring of the transmission path | Defines the single-path and dual-path categories a signalling service is graded by |
| EN 50136-2 | The supervised premises transceiver | The requirements for the unit at the protected site, which is the Supervisor |
| EN 50136-3 | The receiving centre transceiver | The requirements for the equipment at the alarm receiving centre, which is the Signal Dynamic gateway |
| EN 50131-10 | Intrusion and hold-up alarm systems: application requirements for the supervised premises transceiver | How the unit is used within an intruder alarm system |
| EN 54-21 | Alarm transmission and fault warning routing equipment for fire detection and fire alarm systems | The equivalent requirements for fire |
| PD 6662 | The United Kingdom scheme for applying the European intruder alarm standards | The performance requirements UK installers and receiving centres work to |
Signalling categories
EN 50136-1 grades a signalling service by category. Single-path categories are written SP and dual-path categories DP, each with a number: the higher the number, the more quickly the loss of a path must be detected and reported, and the more demanding the requirements for security and availability.
The Supervisor range is designed for single-path categories up to SP5 and dual-path categories up to DP4. Which category applies at a site depends on the model fitted and the paths in use there, and is agreed when the site is designed.
The three Supervisor models →- Single pathDesigned for categories up to SP5
- Dual pathDesigned for categories up to DP4
- Path checkingAbout every 30 seconds, on every path
How the requirements are met
| Requirement | How Signal Dynamic meets it |
|---|---|
| More than one transmission path | Up to four: Ethernet, Wi-Fi and two 4G mobile paths |
| Detecting the loss of a path | Every path is checked about every 30 seconds and a failure is reported |
| Protecting signals in transit | AES-256 encryption, with the unit and the network authenticating each other |
| Resilient delivery to the receiving centre | Two datacentres, and two connections and two gateways for dual-path signalling |
| Keeping equipment current | Firmware updated remotely |
